Charles Zetterstrom

Obituary of Charles R. Zetterstrom

Charles Robin “Chuck” Zetterstrom died peacefully on January 9, 2024, at the farm he loved in the Town of Saratoga. He was born in Saratoga Springs on January 24, 1948, to Mary “Joey” Hulka and Charles Robert Zetterstrom, He attended schools in Ballston Spa and the Capital District.

Chuck retired in 2003 from Niagara Mohawk Power Company, Middle Falls, as Chief Line Mechanic.  He loved his work, and never refused trouble calls, no matter the time or weather.  The bigger the storm, the bigger the adventure. He frequently recalled his 1998 trips due to the Malone ice storm, and to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Georges.

After retirement, he enjoyed his time at home watching the wildlife, gathering winter wood, gardening, and spending time helping friends and family.   In the springtime, he awaited the arrival of the Purple Martins and watched the hummingbirds at the feeders.

Chuck was a lifelong outdoorsman and hunter and always looked forward to his fall vacations with good friends and family in Dennysville, Maine.  As a young adult, he was a Distinguished Expert Marksman and instructor with the NRA. He was also an avid skier and a member of the National Ski Patrol at West Mountain.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Lowder Zetterstrom, his son, Charles Lowder Zetterstrom; his sister, Deborah C. Zetterstrom, an aunt, and many cousins, nephews, nieces and countless friends, both near and far.
