Obituary of William Joseph Walsh Jr.
William Joseph Walsh Jr., 95, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 9, 1928, in Cambridge, NY, to the late William and Mary (Hughes) Walsh.
William married the love of his life Joan (Royal) Walsh on April 19, 1953, at St. Patrick’s Church. William graduated from Greenwich Central School, class of 1945. Following his graduation, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and worked as a Dairy Farmer for over 30 years with his brother John Walsh.
He also was an insurance broker for Cambridge Co-Op Insurance Co. He served as a councilman for the Town of Cambridge for 4 years, Town Supervisor for 12 years, former trustee of Adirondack Community College, former trustee and lector of St. Patrick’s Church, and past Grand Knight of Greenwich Council 1239 Knights of Columbus. William also was a charter member of the St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus Council 10917 as well as a, volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Literacy Program.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joan Walsh, infant daughter Kathleen; brother John Walsh and son-in-law, Robert Colinas.
He is survived by his loving children, Terence (Nancy) Walsh of Eagle Bridge, Daniel (Amy) Walsh of Cambridge, Dr. Anne Walsh of Cambridge, Mark (Roma) Walsh of Saratoga, Stephen Walsh of Cambridge, and Brian (Kathleen) Walsh of Campbell Hall, NY; grandchildren, Christy, Brianna, Brian, Ryan, Bridget, Kelly, Colleen, Stephen, Rebecca, and John; great-grandchildren, Grace, Cole, Lyla, and Eva.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Pender and Carol Byron at the Cambridge Family Health Center and Community Hospice for their excellent care of Dad as well as William’s nephew, Father Jim Walsh for his pastoral care.
A mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Monday, January 15, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Church, 17 S Park St, Cambridge, NY, 12816 with Rev. Jim Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Cambridge, NY.
Family and friends are invited back to the St. Patrick’s Parish House for a reception, following his burial.
