Obituary of Rae "Pete" Davis Sr.

Rae D. “Pete” Davis Sr., passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 8, 1938 to the late Delbert and Lydia Davis and was raised in Schuylerville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in 2011 by the love of his life Mary E. Davis, his wife of 55 years; his brother Donald Davis, and sister Doris Billings also predeceased him. Pete worked for Hollingsworth and Vose for 47 years until his retirement in 2001. He also worked as a part time patrolman for the Village of Greenwich for many years and as a security guard at Saratoga Raceway for 20 years. He was an active member of the Greenwich Fire Department serving with the Fire Police. He was a great mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s numerous ball games and spending time with his great grandchildren who were the lights of his life. They lovingly called him Poppy. He was a devoted family man and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Poppy is also survived by his son Rae D. (Leitha) Davis Jr., daughter MaryBeth (Leo) Flynn and nephew Tom (Barbara) Jennings and niece Beth (Ken) Charron who were raised by Mary and Pete; his grandchildren Brian (Stephanie) Davis, Kaitlin (Fred) Wolff, Jon (Sarah) Davis, Jake (Tabitha) Davis-Barron, Lindsey Flynn, Chris Flynn, Jason Flynn, Jesse Lamb, Tyler (Shelby) Lamb and Chelsea Charron; great grandchildren, Noah, Olivia and Dillan Davis, Casey, Mackenzie and Bradley Wolff, Asher Davis, JJ and Zethra Davis-Barron and Ava Lamb; his brother Kenny Davis and sister Betty Larmon. He is also survived by special family members Martha Davis, Erica Lamb and sons Riley and Marshall, Tish and Izabella Huff, Alex Sawtelle, Jess Ryan, Brian Buell, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. A reception will follow the service at the VFW on Abeel Ave., Greenwich. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. On behalf of Pete, the family would like to thank Dr. Ying, Norm Bovee and Bill Schafer of Pulmonary Physicians of Saratoga for their wonderful care over the years and the excellent nursing staff on C3 at Saratoga Hospital for their care during Pete’s recent stay.
