Obituary of Robert Squires Sr.

Robert W. Squires Sr., 83, a resident of Greenwich, went home to meet his maker, Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home surrounded by his family. Born November 23, 1930 in Northumberland, NY he was the son of the late Charles and Agnes McQuain Squires. He was a truck driver for various trucking companies throughout the area until he became a permanent fixture at the Fort Miller Company in 1962. He was a well-known and respected employee until he retired in 1993. His enjoyments included his Harley’s, especially the one he built from a basket, camping, fishing, hunting, and tinkering, with the ability to repair and build whatever crossed his mind. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 2 brothers, Donald and Malcolm, 1 sister, Alice DeMatteo, and a special granddaughter, Angela Dickinson. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Frances Hammond Squires of Greenwich; his children, Robert Squires Jr. “Skip” (Marie), Sharon Walsh (Matt), Melissa Viele (Bob), Connie Corbin (Jeff), Lori Timmins (Jim), Kim Squires (Ricky), Scott Squires (Shelley), Shawnee Hotaling (Bill), Randy Squires (Jess), Sante Squires, Sandra Burch, Anthony Squires; 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, March 7, 2014 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, with Rev. Clyde McCaskell, officiating. Spring burial will be in the Bacon Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in his memory to the Fort Hudson Nursing Home or the American Lung Association. Special thanks go to John Hedbring for always caring and his continuous support to our family, to Fort Hudson Health Services for awesome care and compassion to Bob and his family, and to Jimmy Brayman for his special visits.
