Obituary of Marshal Truax Sr.

Marshal D. Truax Sr., 70, a resident of Hayes Rd., passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Born December 25, 1943 in Cobleskill, NY he was the son of the late Howard and Dorothy Dietz Truax. He grew up on his family’s farm on Truax Road in Charlotteville, NY with his grandparents, Frank and Eva Truax. Marshal worked construction as a welder up and down the east coast for most of his life. Deciding to settle down 25 years ago in Schuylerville, he continued to work on many bridges, dams, and papermills throughout the area until his retirement from the Glens Falls Carpenters and Millwrights Local #229 in 2004. Marshal enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was an avid outdoorsman making many trips over the years back to the family farm and the Adirondacks for hunting, fishing, and visiting old friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Cousins. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Janice LaPlant Truax of Schuylerville; 2 sons, Marshal Truax Jr. and his wife Lexi of Greenwich and Kelby Truax and his wife Cindy of Fort Edward; 3 daughters, Tracey Truax of Saratoga Springs, Sarah Truax of Schuylerville, and Tammy O’Keefe and her husband Dan of Gansevoort; grandchildren, Spencer, Rachel and Addison Truax of Greenwich, Brian, Katelyn and Logyn Truax of Saratoga Springs, and Briana and David O’Keefe of Gansevoort; 1 goddaughter, Darcy Griffin of Florida; 2 brothers, Larry Truax and wife Mary of Myrtle Beach, SC and Sam Truax of Adairsville, GA; 1 sister, Christine Crapser of Fultonville; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of Marshal’s life will be held at the Quaker Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 1:00-4:00 pm. Memorials can be made in his memory to the Quaker Springs Volunteer Fire Dept., 107 Blodgett Rd., Schuylerville, NY, General Schuyler Emergency Squad, PO Box 111, Schuylerville, NY 12871 or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
