Dear Earline; George, Ruth and family; and Charlene and family, It was with much sadness that I learned of George's passing. It was my distinct pleasure and honor to have known him. He was a man who lived life on his own terms. He chose to uphold and continue his family's heritage and traditions by assuring the survival of his family's farm, and passing it on for future generations, even while his education and brilliant mind could have propelled him into success at any profession or field of endeavour imaginable. He had a sense of duty to his community as well, and his stories of the battle waged by a group of rural citizens against the seemingly inevitable construction of a nuclear power plant testified to the passion he held for preserving a way of life. (More than once I suggested that he should write a book about that fight, but, of course, he could never sit still long enough to do so!) George was as humble as he was brilliant, and as kind as he was passionate. He made a difference in his family, his community, and the world. He will be greatly missed. With our deepest sympathies, Dan and June Shaw and family
