Obituary of Josephine M. Yakubec Eddy

Josephine Yakubec Eddy, 95, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital. Born January 3, 1920 in Cuddy, PA, near Pittsburgh, she was the youngest of 9 children of the late Matthew and Pauline Galicie, who immigrated to the US from Europe in the early twentieth century. Josephine moved to New York City in 1937. She worked at DeJur Amsco Camera Company and as a hostess at the famous Longchamps Restaurant in the Empire State Building. She moved to the Schuylerville area in 1957. She worked in the Schuylerville Central School cafeteria for 18 years until her retirement in 1984. Josephine was a loving caregiver to relatives and others. She provided great support to family and friends and was always ready to help people. Josephine was a person that you could always count on to be there when you needed her. She enjoyed making meals and preparing food for various occasions and events. Josephine absolutely loved children and being with family and friends. She was happiest when everyone was gathered together. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, US Army veteran Frank I. Yakubec; her husband of 35 years, US Army veteran Donald E. Eddy; her older siblings, Mary (Charles Sidney) Jones, Matthew Galicie, Anthony (Renetta) Galicie, Pauline (Charles) Quinter, Ann (Joseph Pasek, Michael) Faughnan, Louise (Charles) Donohoe, Agnes Galicie, and Helen (Melvin) Delaney; and sister-in-law Marion (Lloyd) Decker. Survivors include her children, Frank J. (Marian) Yakubec and Mary Ann (George) Hathaway; grandchildren, Brendan Hathaway, Paul (Jasmyn) Yakubec, Vance (Pricilla) Yakubec, Anne Marie Hathaway, and Christine Yakubec; great grandchildren, Stephen Yakubec, Rebekah Yakubec, and Luke Yakubec; and several beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11AM Friday, March 13, 2015 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7PM at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
