Obituary of William E. Murphy

William E. Murphy, 87, a resident of VanNess Ave., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 28, 2015 at his home. Born August 2, 1928 in Perth Amboy, NJ he was the son of the late Patrick and Rachael Cooke Murphy. Mr. Murphy served in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. He received his BS from Ithaca College and MS from NYSU at Oneonta. He taught at Schuylerville Central School for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Battenkill Country Club, 82nd Airborne Division Association, Kappa Psi Alpha Fraternity at Ithaca College, Greenwich Elks Club #2223 and Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grand children, golfing, fishing and good humor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 4 brothers, George, James, Francis and Raymond. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Skiff Murphy of Greenwich; 2 daughters, Smith Ann (Robert F.) Wright of Greenwich and Elizabeth J. (Seth) Murphy of Lake Oswego, OR ; 1 son, Patrick (Christine) Murphy of Corinth, NY; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grand children. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
