Obituary of Brian J Gillis
Brian J. Gillis, 55, a resident of Thomson Rd. passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle.
Born July 27, 1960 in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Harry and Jean Fernette Gillis.
Mr. Gillis attended Heatly High School in Green Island, NY and then enlisted with the Army National Guard. He had been employed at Victory Specialty, Quad Graphics, NYS National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, and as a Correction Officer with Washington County Sheriffs Office.
He was a member of General Schuyler Emergency Squad EMS, a lifetime member of Middle Falls Fire Department, member and Past Post Commander with the Greenwich VFW. He was an avid hunter and camper and enjoyed being at his camp in Oswegatchie, NY. He loved the outdoors, the Dallas Cowboys and NY Yankees.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Margaret Terry Gillis and brother, George Terry and his wife, Laura.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Carol Boivin Gillis of Greenwich; 2 sons, Dave (Susan) Gillis of Argyle and Andrew (Angel) Gillis of Greenwich; 2 brothers, Keith (Michelle) Gillis of Greenfield Center and Joe (Lois) Terry of Wynantskill; 1 sister, Margaret (Ron) Neissen of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Ethan, Aislinn, Ashton, Piper, Kaylin, Lilliana, and Madilyn; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11am Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, NY. A reception will follow at the American Legion on Clancy St.
Memorials can be made in his memory to a fund for Diane Bodnar Grooznack, c/o Flynn Bros. Inc., 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
