Obituary of Carl K. Thomas

Carl K. Thomas, 92, former resident of Cambridge who was currently residing at Wesley Health Care Center, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Born August 13, 1918 at home in Greenwich, NY, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Kenyon) Thomas. Carl was raised in Greenwich and worked several jobs before serving in WWII as a Sergeant in the 8th Medical Battalion of the Army. He was honorably discharged Sept. 10, 1945, but remained close with his “Army Buddies” throughout the rest of his life. After Carl was discharged, he bought the Marshall farm, located on what is now known as County Route 60. He married Geraldine Frances Brownell on April 28, 1946. He was a dairy farmer until he retired in 1971. Carl then drove a fuel truck for Agway for a number of years and a milk truck for Fred Burnham of Cambridge through the mid-eighties. Carl also served as Town of Cambridge Assessor into the mid-nineties. For many years, Carl was a trustee and devoted member of Stump Church. After entering Wesley in 2009, he was very sad to no longer be able to participate in Stump’s regular services and activities. Carl was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine Brownell. Survivors include his children; Connie (Bill) Watkins, Kathy (Jim) Gallagher, Cliff (Donna) Thomas and Anita (Holly Fitzmaurice) Thomas; Grandchildren, Chaughn (Connie) Watkins, Amy (Dan) Mazzio, Tracey (Ben) Wardwell, Michelle Cattuti, Brooke (Richie) Thomas-Record and Blake, Schuyler, and Mikaela Thomas; Great grandchildren; Megan and Anna Watkins, Rachel Mazzio and Carrissa and Garrett Wardwell. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main Street, Greenwich. A funeral service will follow at 1pm. Burial will be in the Stump Church (North Cambridge) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Stump Church or a charity of your choice.
