Obituary of Joan K. Sullivan

Joan K. Sullivan, 90, a former Church St. resident, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital. Born October 27, 1925 in Flushing, Queens, NY she was the daughter of the late Robert and Josephine Craig Mathews of Rosedale, Long Island, NY. Mrs. Sullivan was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and went to work for Time Inc., and Elizabeth Arden in New York City before marrying John J. Sullivan and moving to Schuylerville. In 1960 John and Joan purchased Old Saratoga Inn and Bowling Lanes. She was a bowling coach and had a number of New York State Championship teams over the years. She also worked at the Schuylerville Public Library for several years. She knitted over five thousand teddy bear sweaters that she donated to Hole in the Woods Ranch. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John J. Sullivan; a grandson, Jeremy; and daughter-in-law, Jeanne. Survivors include her children, Michael (Sue) Sullivan of Carthage, NC, Patrick Sullivan of Greenwich, Bob (Gerry) Sullivan of Salem, and Debbie (Dale) Charbonneau of Saratoga Springs; grandchildren, Sean Sullivan, Jen Myers, Stacey Poitras, Jennah Scofield, Bob Sullivan, John Sullivan, and Danielle Jourdan; and 12 great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, April 14 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-6pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
