Obituary of Loris Brownell

Loris Brownell, 85, a lifelong area resident passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 19, 1931 in Vly Summit in the Town of Easton to the late John and Gladys (Beveridge) Brownell. At a very young age Loris established his strong work ethic. He started working on various Skiff farms and then delivered petroleum for Agway and later had his own fuel oil delivery company. In retirement he drove school bus for the Greenwich Central School and later was a crossing guard for the Village of Greenwich. He began his education in country schools and graduated from Greenwich in 1950. Loris loved baseball which led to his coaching and many umpiring duties. He was instrumental in establishing the Greenwich Little League. He was a member of the North Cambridge (Stump) Church, a Greenwich village trustee, and a long time fundraiser for the Crop Walk and Van Go. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Harwood Brownell and sisters Geraldine Thomas and twin Doris Jordan. Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years Eleanor Polley Brownell; son Les (Tomma) Brownell of Colchester VT; four daughters Lois (Thomas) Hammond of Queensbury, Louanne (Delbert) Kirk of Greenwich, Leitha (Don) Jepson of Greenwich and Linda (Alvin) Sanderson of Mustang, OK; eight grandchildren Deanna Kirk, Karissa Johnson, Candace Conti-Lemery, Marcy Brownell, Katina and Demy Jepson, Eric and Nathan Sanderson; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law Herschel (Margaret) Polley; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, September 2, 2016 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 with the Rev. Virginia Cornell officiating. Burial will follow at the Stump Church Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8pm on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in Loris’s name may be made to the Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad or the Greenwich Fire Department first responders.
