My years at Blue Ridge continue to have an invaluable impact on my life, and John Kettlewell was a large part of that. The lessons he taught in class, on campus, as well as from the pulpit remain as guiding lights. Thank you, John. You helped to form so many young men. Eternal Memory+

John was always sensitive to the changing dynamics of my family while at Blue Ridge. As a young adult there were times of difficulty in my relationship with my father, Hatcher Williams, the Headmaster. I returned home to the campus for a visit and attended John's regular Sunday service with my parents.
John's sermon that day was on...the prodigal son!
I believe it had an impact on my father, even though it was almost painfully obvious that John's selection of that particular topic was aimed at our father and son relationship.
As I recall, the rest of my visit was significantly easier.
John was a good friend and a wonderful mentor to so many young people over the span of his vibrant and unique life.
On another note he was the source of information in letting my father know that his official title at the Blue Ridge school chapel was "the Peculiar of the
Ordinary " according to the Episcopal diocese.
He will be missed. John Williams

I went caving one time in my life and it was with Dr. Kettlewell while I was at Blue Ridge. We had to crossover a ravine with a 50+ foot drop. I am terribly afraid of heights and I froze. Dr. Kettlewell with no fear or hesitation, jumped back over the ravine and helped me across. One of the alumni weekends in the past 10 years, I was lucky to run into John. I hadn’t seen him since 1982. I asked him if he remembered that story and he said that he did and laughed out loud. He had a great laugh and smile. He will he missed!
